Description

Building Information Modeling (BIM) has been proven successful in the vertical industry involving structures-buildings by integrating design-construction data resulting in benefits such as improved efficiency and cost-saving. The industry has increasingly used BIM for the horizontal industry involving infrastructure. BIM for Pavements (BFP) is a new area in infrastructure applications with the potential to achieve improved benefits for pavement construction. Following the success of the vendors’ joint presentation at the 2019 NRRA BIM for Pavements Workshop, this webinar is to focus on cross-platforms technology instead of individual product/solution and to lay out a practical road map and showcase tools and methodology to implement BIM for pavements.

Speakers’ Bio

Jim Preston, Intelligent Paving Specialist, TOPCON

While attending Tri-State University and The Ohio State University, Jim interned for Civil Engineering and Consulting firms, working with municipalities and DOTs in road and bridge applications. Jim found an interest in fieldwork and began engaging with the technology manufacturers. Over the last 28 years, Jim has worked with many technology companies and international markets for civil engineering, construction, and mining. Holding membership with the ISIC and NRRA technology committees, he continues to broaden the scope of solutions. Working with Topcon Positioning Systems, Jim is proficient in identifying the applications to support the current and future needs of the industry.

Paul M. Carlson, Director, Business Development, Digital Construction Works

Beginning his career in GIS & Mapping, Mr. Carlson migrated to the Civil and Survey industry and later applied his knowledge and experience to software and technology for those industries. Almost 20 years of Mr. Carlson’s career has been in software and related technology for Engineering, Surveying, and Construction and a focus in his own company on consulting and implementation services.  Mr. Carlson resides in the Dallas/Fort Worth area in Texas. He works with customers to bridge the technology gaps that exist in their workflows to turn their digital hopes into digital realities.

Kevin Schlereth, Director, Delivery Technology Group, HNTB

Mr. Schlereth is the Director of the Delivery Technology Group at HNTB.   He is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Ohio and a graduate of Ohio University with a Bachelor’s Science in Civil Engineering.  Mr. Schlereth has worked as a technology subject matter expert for over 20 years in integrated design in areas including Civil, Rail, Drainage, Utilities, and Structures. He built his first 3D civil model in 1995 and has had the unique opportunity of working with and training on several civil engineering software, including OpenRoads, InRoads, GEOPAK, Trimble, and Civil3d.

Luigi Vendittelli, OEM Support Manager, North America, Leica Geosystems Inc.

Mr. Vendittelli is experienced technical support with a demonstrated 32-year history of working in the construction industry. He is currently a specialist in intelligent compaction and driller/piler.

Dr. George K. Chang, PE, President of ISIC; Transtec Group

Dr. George Chang is a world expert on pavement smoothness and intelligent compaction/construction technologies.  Dr. Chang has founded the International Society for Intelligent Construction – ISIC  (www.IS-IC.org). His research, teaching, specification development, and software tools have helped make significant technological advancements in the above fields.  The websites he develops and maintains, Profile Viewing and Analysis – ProVAL (www.RoadProfile.com) and Intelligent Construction Technologies (www.IntelligentConstruction.com) have evolved into the one-stop-shop for pavement smoothness and intelligent compaction/construction.
